The Montenegrin TV series in development ‘Pray for Us’ won the main prize of the fourth edition of ‘Series Rough Pitch - The Balkan Way’, and the Croatian project ‘A Fistful of Nothing’ by writer/director Jasna Nanut and producer Hrvoje Osvadić was also awarded twice.
Within the fourth edition of the event 'Series Rough Pitch – The Balkan Way', the jury's main prize in the amount of 6,000 euros was awarded to the project ‘Pray for Us’ by writer/creator Filip Jokanović and director/producer Sara Stijović (Tiny Sofa) from Montenegro.
The jury explained the awarding of the main prize with the following words:
"A project that's about a family and a society in struggle. It is, we think, a perfect chance, to the macabre or horror to bring on a sense of catharsis, as something as horrible as the Balkan War. And it feels like a perfect chance to use this Trojan horse to lead the audience to connect to these events. And the main prize award goes to 'Pray for Us' - presented by writer, creator Filip Jokanović ' and director, producer Sara Stijović / Tiny Sofa from Montenegro - for its urgency and for connecting to a new generation by breaking the silence on a bleak event in our communal history and giving us a chance to heal with a highly relevant story."
The team behind the winning project, Filip Jokanović and Sara Stijović, said the following:
"At the beginning, our goal was for people to understand where we are coming from. We wanted to tell that story, and to tell it in a genre that is not that common, especially in our region, through this medium - a story that is about healing, even though it is a supernatural horror. We are glad that we were able to communicate that with people, and I think that this is going to give us a boost that we needed to push this project forward and hopefully soon get it on its own feet to start circulating."
The Special Mention and 1000 EUR by the tutors Helene Granqvist & Valeria Richter was awarded to „A Fistful of Nothing“ represented by writer, director Jasna Nanut & producer Hrvoje Osvadić / 15th Art Productions / Petnaesta umjetnost from Croatia, and with the following explanation:
„The coaches’ special mention is given for the clear and engaging ways in which the creator manages to transform personal emotions and experiences from their reality into a comedic tale that grips us on all levels. On top she has fully embraced the pitch experience and made it her own – congratulations to Jasna and 'A Fistful of Nothing.“
The writer and director of the project, Jasna Nanut, commented on the award as follows:
"The whole workshop was an excellent experience for us, and it was nice working with the tutors. Thanks to them, I learned a lot about the physical approach to pitching, so I think in the future I will have a lot less stage fright and a lot more confidence."
Finally, the Series Mania Forum award in the form of accreditation for participation in the Forum next year was awarded to the Croatian project ‘A Fistful of Nothing’ by writer and director Jasna Nanut and producer Hrvoje Osvadić (15th Art Productions).
Solène Moreau (Series Mania Forum) explained the awarding of accreditation with the following words:
„The passion and the energy that was put in the pitch and the story convinced that the project could benefit from the accreditation, taking it to the next step, hopefully, finding new partners, co-producers next March in Series Mania. “
Jasna Nanut and Hrvoje Osvadić shared the following about the award:
"We are really glad to have received this award and are looking forward to participating in the Series Mania Forum. This award will help us a lot in the future because commercial television appreciates this type of awards, as well as the rest of the industry."
